Police Are Hacking Cell Phones and How to Protect Your Privacy

Did you know that cops can hack your cell phone?

Yup, it’s true, they just plug your phone into a device and download all your data whether it’s password protected or not. There are applications available for certain smart phones that will allow you to bypass this security, but there is no overall solution for you to stop police from using their mobile phone hack box to download all the data from your phone.

So if you are extremely paranoid about your privacy or have embarrassing texts you don’t want anyone else to know about, then this is what you can do to help.

  • Don’t store data on your phone
  • Do not add contacts
  • Delete your call history
  • Delete your text messages

But if that is a bit overkill and inconvenient for your lifestyle, then you might be lucky since these machines aren’t available in all areas. So there are a few other things you can do that might ease your anxiety and also maybe save your ass.

  • Password protect your cell phone and data, and encrypt your cell phone when possible (Blackberry has this, iPhone doesn’t)
  • Configure your phone to erase all data after ten failed password attempt or similar (iPhone feature)
  • Never give your password to the police, you have the right to remain silent and regardless of what the police say to trick you into sharing this in case that happens.

This is an older RT video from last year, however the information is still very relevant.
